Le Murate opens its doors to Florence

Formerly a Florentine prison, the Le Murate complex has a whole new look. On April 26, the fully renovated building was officially opened to the public as a cultural center. Open from noon to midnight daily, Le Murate is offering a packed calendar of events through June.

Keep your eyes peeled for cultural events at the stunning Le Murate complex. The new design gives the space a stylish, modern look. There are two large rooms on the ground floor which will be perfect for conferences, concerts and other performances. The old prison cells have been renovated into nine offices: one is reserved for the Superintendent of Culture and the rest will be occupied temporarily by an independent radio station and artists-in-residence.
From a dark place of imprisonment to a lively, social cultural gathering space, Le Murate will offer events all year round. Come to socialize with other students and locals or come alone to get creative and be inspired. Le Murate provides easy access for students and residents alike living in the city centre, since it is located between via dell’ Agnolo and via Ghibellina on Viale della Giovine Italia.
