Every step you take in Florence you can find traditional italian foods and wine that can make your tastebuds explode. However, upon entering the Central Market in San Lorenzo, one is overwhelmed with the smell, sight, sounds and hustle and bustle of the popular and very successful market. Florence’s largest covered market, the Mercato Centrale has been around since 1874 and is known as one of the oldest markets in Italy. Here, you can find traditional tuscan meats and fish, produce, cheese, wine, oils and everything in between. There are stands with dried fruits, herbs, nuts, fresh pasta, and so much more. Lunch is available upstairs in the market until 2 PM. Additionally, wine and oil tastings are sometimes available from certain kiosks upon reservation. A place of bright color, fresh food, and happy people – the Central Market is filled with quality items and a large selection, making it a must-see in Florence.
