Palazzo Pitti is celebrating Gallery of Modern Arts 100th birthday with a special exhibition of modern artwork. The collection, Lights of 900, was opened in 1914, and since then, it has grown and developed to one of a kind collection. The Gallery has collected over 8,000 pictures, drawings, and sculptures, and only 10% of the art pieces are shown to the public.
In 1914, due to the popular Macchiaioli group of artists that were part of the art movement, the gallery decided to open up a modern art room dedicated to those outstanding works of arts. The revolutionary artists experimented with light and shadow effects, a technique that was once widely criticized, are now on display for the world to see in those rooms.
