River to River, an annual Indian film festival will take place from 5th to 10th of December at Odeon theater in Florence.
Only a few movie markets are not overcome by American movies. Among them is India. Indian movies have earned popularity for its dramatic and moral plot brightened by music and dance. Nevertheless, according to the director of this festival Selvaggia Velo, River to River is the first festival in the world outside of India that is completely devoted to Indian films.
River to River shows more than twenty Indian films with English and/or Italian subtitles. There will be several talks with producers and directors. The festival also introduces a new Indian Video Art section and a new collaboration with the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna: the award winning 2015 films will be screened in the calendar of the Cineteca di Bologna.
Selvaggia Velo shares her motivation in the interview with LdM news. It was the strong sensation she experienced the first time she watched Indian films – in other words, the difference. Being the only place in Florence where people can watch Indian movies, Florence Indian Film Festival will open a way for the art of films to flow in from the Ganges and the Indus to the Arno.
