When the world answered

What better place to launch an art book than in Florence? Linda Falcone and Jane Fortune, co-authors of When the World Answered that shared the artwork of 30 women and raises the profile of women artists.

In 1966, 14,000 artworks were damaged in Florence by different floods that occurred. Hundreds of artists donated their work and 30 of those were women’s pieces in an effort to counter the destruction of the floods. The donated works of art are considered modern, but, they have in store for over 50 years since women could not sign their names, or take the money for their work since they had no rights. Today, women artwork is being recognized women’s work over the world.
